A New Embroidery Story Begins (Baby Girl Birth Keepsake for Yana)

Sometimes the most meaningful projects don’t begin with a perfect plan.

They begin with one tiny stitch.

One outline.
One thread.
One quiet thought:
“What if I try this idea?”

And honestly… that’s exactly how these little baby footprints began

I’ve wanted to create something deeply personal for a long time. Not just embroidery for decoration, but something emotional — a handmade keepsake filled with memories.

So I chose baby footprints.

To me, they symbolize everything soft and fleeting about those first days of life. Tiny details that disappear so quickly, but somehow stay in your heart forever.

This embroidery piece is being made as a gift for a baby girl named Яна (Yana), and even though the project is still unfinished, it already feels incredibly special.

The Colors and Materials I’m Using

For this project, I wanted everything to feel soft, delicate, and slightly vintage.

The base fabric is natural linen, which I absolutely love for keepsake embroidery because it gives the whole piece warmth and texture.

For the embroidery floss, I chose muted shades of:

  • dusty pink

  • berry tones

  • soft greens

  • delicate floral colors

Together they remind me of pressed flowers in an old botanical book — only stitched by hand instead of preserved on paper.

My Favorite Stage: The Beautiful Messy Middle

The embroidery process is still fully in progress.

Some areas already have textured little roses stitched onto the baby feet. Some parts still exist only as disappearing marker lines. And honestly, part of the composition is still evolving in my head while I stitch.

And this stage?
This is actually my favorite part.

Not when the work is perfect.
Not when everything is finished and polished.

But now.

When threads are still hanging loose.
When decisions change halfway through.

When the embroidery almost feels alive — like it’s quietly guiding me toward what it wants to become.

Tiny Details I Love Most

One of my favorite stitches in this piece is the french knot.

They look like tiny berries, beads, or little flower buds scattered across the fabric. I love how such small stitches can completely change the texture of embroidery.

And the green leafy branches…
Sometimes embroidery honestly feels less like stitching and more like drawing with thread 🌿

The Real Creative Process (Not the Perfect One)

Around me, as always:

  • embroidery scissors

  • needles

  • thread everywhere

  • sketch lines

  • tiny fabric scraps

  • embroidery floss somehow covering half the room

And I wanted to keep this project exactly like that.

Real.

Not overly staged.
Not perfectly arranged for photos.

Just an honest embroidery process with pencil lines, unfinished sections, working chaos inside the hoop, and ideas still growing stitch by stitch.

Because I truly believe there’s beauty in that part too.

A Handmade Gift Filled With Meaning

I think handmade baby gifts always carry something extra inside them.

Not just time and materials — but attention, care, and memory.

This piece will eventually include:

  • baby name

  • birth date

  • birth time

  • height

  • weight

  • floral embroidered footprints

And hopefully, years from now, it will still remind someone of how tiny those little feet once were.

Final Thought

Sometimes I honestly love the process even more than the finished piece.

Because the process feels alive.
Unpredictable.
Warm.
Human.

And maybe that’s the real beauty of handmade embroidery after all ✨

Do you enjoy seeing works in progress as much as finished projects?
