Chocolate & Strawberry Ice Cream: A Handmade Crochet Set for My Daughter

Some crochet projects begin with a carefully planned color palette.

And some happen completely by accident.

This little crochet set belongs to the second category.

The moment I finished it, the colors instantly reminded me of chocolate and strawberry ice cream, and the name simply stuck.

A Sweet Color Combination I Never Planned

This project started with yarn from my stash.

The soft pink yarn was made here in Belarus, while the chocolate-brown yarn came from an older collection that had been patiently waiting for the right project.

I wasn't following a color palette or trying to match specific shades. I simply picked two colors that looked beautiful together.

Sometimes the best crochet projects happen that way.

A Crochet Hat Designed as I Went

This was one of those rare projects where I didn't use a pattern at all.

Every part was crocheted freestyle, stitch by stitch, following ideas as they came to me.

Honestly, those are often my favorite projects.

There's something incredibly satisfying about watching a design take shape directly from your imagination.

The hat itself is simple, comfortable, and perfect for everyday wear.

My Favorite Part: The Granny Square Bag

If you've spent any time on my blog, you've probably noticed that I have a soft spot for granny squares.

They're timeless, versatile, and somehow never go out of style.

For this set, I made a small crochet bag using one of my favorite granny square motifs. It turned out to be the perfect size for children's dance shoes, little treasures, or everyday essentials.

And let's be honest — every little girl needs a special bag.

Finishing the Crochet Bag Handle

One of my favorite moments during any crochet project is finishing the final details.

Once the bag was assembled, all that remained was crocheting the handle.

It's a simple step, but somehow it always feels like the project truly comes together at that moment.

Free Granny Square Pattern

Several readers have asked about the granny square used for this little bag, so I've included the pattern below.

It's one of my favorite classic granny square designs because it's simple, beginner-friendly, and works beautifully for bags, blankets, pillows, and countless other crochet projects. granny square pattern diagram

Final Thoughts

And somehow, those unexpected projects often become the ones we love most.

I hope this simple granny square inspires you to create something from your own yarn stash too.
