This summer has been moving at an absolutely ridiculous speed, and August seems to be disappearing even faster.
Although, when I think about it, everything is going pretty much according to plan.
The garden.
Crochet.
A few trips.
And, somehow, a whole collection of jars and preserves appeared on the list too.
So perhaps I don't have a lack of things to write about.
I simply have too many things happening at once.
And this time, I thought I'd tell you about one of our trips.
Discovering Belarus All Over Again
This summer we've been exploring Belarus in a slightly different way.
There are places we've visited before, sometimes more than once, that suddenly look completely different when you return with another idea in mind.
This time it was Białowieża Forest.
We've been there before.
But this time we saw it from a completely different perspective — from a bicycle.
And that changed everything.
Eleven People, Bicycles, and a Lot of Fun
There were eleven of us altogether — adults and children.
Which, as you can probably imagine, meant that the trip was not exactly quiet.
But that's what made it so much fun.
We rode together, stopped along the way, talked, laughed, took pictures, and simply enjoyed being outside.
There is something wonderful about exploring a forest by bicycle.
You can cover much more ground than you would on foot, but you are still moving slowly enough to notice the details around you.
The trees.
The paths.
The sounds.
The little clearings.
And those moments when everyone stops simply because the place is too beautiful to rush past
Seeing a Familiar Place Differently
I think this was my favorite part.
Sometimes we assume that if we've already visited somewhere, we already know it.
But change the season.
Change the company.
Take a different route.
Or simply slow down.
And suddenly the familiar becomes new again.
That's exactly what happened to us in Białowieża Forest.
We weren't checking off tourist attractions.
We were simply riding.
And somehow that made the whole experience feel much more personal.
A Perfect Summer Day
This was exactly the kind of summer day I love.
No complicated itinerary.
No rushing from one place to another.
Just bicycles, a forest, good company, and plenty of time outside.
The children were happy.
The adults were happy.
And everyone came home tired in the best possible way.
You know that kind of tiredness?
The one that makes you think, That was a really good day.
That's what this trip felt like.
What Would I Take on a Forest Bike Ride?
Of course, being a crafter, I can't resist thinking about the practical little things.
For a bicycle day trip like this, I'd keep everything simple.
A small backpack for water and essentials.
A reusable water bottle.
A phone holder or small waterproof pouch.
A compact picnic blanket for an unplanned stop.
And perhaps a lightweight crossbody bag for the things you want close at hand.
You don't need much.
The whole point is to leave the house with less and enjoy more.

A Summer That's Moving Too Fast
And perhaps that's why I haven't been writing much this month.
I'm trying to actually live this summer instead of constantly documenting it.
The garden needs attention.
The crochet projects are waiting.
There are trips to remember.
There are vegetables to preserve.
And somewhere in between all of that, there are blog posts waiting for me too.
August always feels like that.
You think you have plenty of time.
And suddenly you're looking at the calendar wondering where the month went.
Beyond the Forest: Two Beautiful Churches
And our trip didn't end with the bicycle ride through Białowieża Forest.
We also visited two churches in the Kamianets District, and both left a strong impression on us.
The first one is in the village of Omelenets, near Kamenyuki.
What a beautiful church!
It is one of those places that makes you stop for a moment and simply look.
The second church was in the village of Rozhkovka, and it has a very unusual history.
The church is currently being restored, so we couldn't see it in its full glory. But even with the restoration work going on, we were still deeply impressed by the place and its atmosphere.
I won't try to retell its history here because there is a wonderful story about it online — and, honestly, it is written much more beautifully than I could write it myself.

But what I remember just as much as the church itself is the village.
The silence.
What incredible silence there was in Rozhkovka.
The kind of silence that you don't often notice until you suddenly find yourself standing in the middle of it.
And then there was the road.
A beautiful old road dating back to imperial times, winding through this wonderfully quiet countryside.
For a moment, it felt as though we had stepped much further back in time.
These are exactly the kinds of places I love discovering in Belarus — not necessarily the famous sights everyone has heard about, but the quiet corners with their own stories, old roads, beautiful churches, and an atmosphere you remember long after you've gone home.
Final Thoughts
I'm glad we decided to explore Białowieża Forest by bicycle this time.
We've been there before, but this trip reminded me that familiar places can still surprise you.
Sometimes all you need is a different perspective.
A bicycle.
A group of people you enjoy being with.
And a little time to wander.
So yes — let's go for a bike ride through Białowieża Forest.
Just don't ask me how long it will take me to get back to the blog afterward.
